Is Vita-vittles Ferret diet good and I have a problem with one of my ferrets?
I just got this new food for my ferrets, The Vita-vittles Ferret diet. It seem to be all the right stuff and also my sister buys the same brand for her chinchilla and they look really nice. Their coat at 100% better. But my ferrets are not taking a liking to it really well. I use to feed a kitten food mixed with Marshall. The cost on Marshall was killing me. Sense it went up to to for the 7lb bags at the local pet store around here I just can afford to buy it anymore. I don’t want to get rid of them. I have five. So I open to any type of ferret food that his good but a little easier on the money.
And also I have one ferret that I had problem form the start. I well rescued him from my neighbors and the other ferret that had came with him gained weight beautifully and he still is pretty much skin and bones. I hate playing with him because of it and also he doesn’t play like the others. Is it the age (2 or 3) or would it be something more like sickness? Should I just look to putting him down then selling him.

I always kept my ferrets on a mix of at least three foods- b/c they are so picky and typically don’t switch food easily.
Look at Iams Kitten- it was my cheapest food I would consider and was the only one that could be bought at a non-pet store. I used Ultimate 8-n-1 and also Innova Evo (but they are priced higher than marshalls) Ferrets need HIGH protein and those foods are pricey.
If your guy is skin and bones- take him to the vet. It could be a lot of things but a good ferret experienced vet will likely be able to identify the issue quickly. And he/she can direct you about your options w/ this ferret.
Good Luck with your food selection and the sick furbaby.
Try ordering the food online from http://www.ferret.com or http://www.ferretdepot.com, they are both very reasonably priced.
In my opinion Vita-vittles, Iams (and most cat foods), and Marshalls are absolute GARBAGE for ferrets to eat. Not enough protein or fat in them. You need a food with at least 40% protein.
My recommendations are (prices for http://www.ferretdepot.com):
-Evo $19.69 for 6.6 lbs, this is what I currently feed mine.
-8 in 1 Ultimate $9.99 for 4.4 lbs
-Wysong (not on the site)
-Zupreem $9.99 for 4 lbs, $17.49 for 8 lb, $56.99 for 30 lbs.
-Totally Ferret $13.99 for 4 lbs, $39.99 for 15 lbs.
Zupreem is probably the cheapest out of all of them, but still a decent diet. You can get 8 lbs for about $13 online or 4 lbs for $8.
And for your sick ferret you need to get him vet help now! In the mean time, look up duck soup ferret recipes. You can make this and feed it to him about 4 times a day. Still offer dry food and fresh water though. The soup you may have to syringe feed. Please don’t put the ferret down just because its skinny, it needs help! Don’t take the easy way out. And I think it’s awful you don’t want to play with him. Get him some help or give him to someone who can help him.
Ferrets are really expensive and you should’ve thought about that before getting them, they need the best food, not just what’s cheap.
