Help with picking ferret diet?
My one ferret Gizmo died about a week ago. Now I only have Trixie his sister. I want to make sure she gets the BEST diet as possible. I know that any food with fish, or fish meal in it causes them to stink, and I have never fed my ferrets anything with fish in it, and never will.
Right now I have her on ZuPreem Ferret Diet. She has gained weight, in a good way because they both had worms. It just got further than I thought with Gizmo…:[
Well if you could give me some suggestions to a ferret food that would be best for Trixie that would be great.

They both did go to the vet, but even before I could get the de-wormer shpped or go to the store to get it, Gizmo died the day after going to the vet… R.I.P Gizzy!
The vet was out of de-wormer for ferrets.

The BEST BEST diet is, yes, Raw. Any type of raw food ( plain meat, live rodents, pre-killed frozen rodents), ferrets are strict carnivores and this is the best diet, although some ferret owners (like me) choose not to take that path. If you still want to feed kibble, Wysong (forgot the full name) and Natural Gold, although they’re extremely expensive. Zupreem is good, but there are better. I feed my ferret a mix of Zupreem, Evo Red meat small bites Canine ( cannot be fed by itself, but they like to eat it), and Evo Ferret (Evo feline works good, too.) Evo is one of the best kibbles on a budget. Here are a few good places to buy ferret food for a decent price:

you feed them raw chicke, raw lamb.
prey, mice, rats (please think of the mice/rats they have feelings too)

I have to agree…Raw is THE best food you can feed your ferret. Everything about them physically is designed perfectly for the consumption of raw foods.
A little fish isn’t going to hurt. It depends on the quality of the fish and how high it is on the ingredient list. I wouldn’t feed a food with herring being the second ingredient, but I do feed a food with whitefish and salmon being the 4th and 6th ingredients.
Other high quality kibbles are Wellness CORE and Origen (both feline). But seriously, raw is the way to go especially since you only have one ferret. I have yet to make the switch but having 7 ferrets is the main roadblock for me. The Holistic Ferret Forum recommended by the first poster is an AWESOME website.
