Any ideas for some home-made ferret toys? Or snuggly ferret bed? Have never had ferrets before so need help ?
I am getting 2 ferrets tomorrow and iv been reading up on them for a while and want to make their time in the cage while im not playing with them fun!
As its getting rather cold and i read they love little blankets, i was going to make a little kind of quilty cushion type thing, basically with some nice soft fabric on the outside and lots of torn of fabric inside to make it cushiony.
Would they like this?
I am worried that they will pick at the stitching and it’ll get stuck in their claws and their teeth! (1st timeer you see lol)
Any other odeas for toys?
I heard they LOVE smelly socks!!! lol
I was thinking maybe a little small teddy that my son no longer plays with?
any help given is really appreciated!!

the thing you have to watch is their claws getting stuck in fabric, anything that fibers loosen on is no good as parts of the underneath of the claw split and come away when nails are growing, and as i found out the hard way if this little bit of claw catches in a lose fiber, they get stuck!
toys mine loved are balls (watch out with rubber balls as their teeth get stuck) anything that rattles (filling a small plastic bottle with dried peas was quite popular) balls/small toys/feathers on a string, raw eggs (given whole, they will either go mad for them or have no idea what to do with them!) also cardboard boxes with holes in, tubes, more or less any toys for cats!
i found that the most popular beds where the ones that hung and where enclosed, with only one small gap to get out, i stuffed mine with shredded paper rather than bits of fabric. a bed like this would be easy to make::http://www.ferret.com/item/super-pet-super-sleeper-comf-e-cube/
this one is a cube, my ferrets had a round one, but it’s basically the same thing. if they will be kept inside they will probably prefer an open bed like an open hammock:http://www.ferret.com/item/super-pet-simple-sleeper-hammock/ * they over-heat so quickly and get ill so the cooler (not cold) they are the better. take into consideration the temperature where you live and adjust their cage accordingly, keeping the cage out of direct sunlight is also really important!

give them a old boot i had a ferret and he loved it and dangaly cat toys things like that thay love but try the boot
I have 2 ferrets myself, and so if you want to make toys, make sure that they cannot eat of the cotton, or else they could choke on it. So you might want to buy some.

Anything like cardboard tubes,egg cartons, boxes (if you cut holes in them!) Anything light that they can either go into or push around and throw in the air. They also make special cages for ferrets like this

About the little blankets, I think you idea is great, sounds like something a ferret would really like!!!!!

ferrets will dig at their bed, if you keep their nails trimmed then their should be no problem in stuff getting caught in them. I hav never heard of a ferret getting string stuck in their teeth…
They would probably like that.
I use blankets for my ferrets and put them in a basket, they enjoy sleeping under the blankets if it gets to cold or on them if it is warm.
You can use dog toys, cat toys, or baby toys for them. My ferret Raymond LOVES anything with a bell in it.
They love smelly socks AND shoes. If you have any shoes or socks you’d be willing to give up then you can give it to them, don’t bother washing them.
Large stuffed animals also work for ‘beds’ and toys.

the bedding you would want to put in their cage should be cedar wood chips, you can buy them at a pet supply store or a Tractor Supply store. They usually use a litter box, so keep that in mind.
my two boys love our homemade toys we’ve got :
a garden hanging basket and just put a pillow and blanket inside
a pair of old wellies
cardboard box with a hole in one side and its filled with stips of multi purpose cleanin cloths
a plastic box filled with kids ballpit balls (their absolute fav)
Ti is good you want to make their cage time fun . Yes they like blankets, but a sleeping bag would be better and not hard to make. They love to get in dark places .Some good toys are cat toys small soft. Nothing with small parts that can come off and choke them small balls that can tattle or jingle work to .Hanging ropes are good ,also a dryer hose to go in. You can get this stuff at wall mart cheep. Something I do is take a shoebox cut holes in the top,sides and ends they love to go in and out of it. They also love to have a hanging bed most of the cage time is spent a sleep they sleep about 18 hours a day. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
