Ferret Care Archives

I just adopted all these Ferrets a few days ago, and I am REALLY enjoying them!!! (I WILL BE KEEPING GOO GOO BEAR)I have had or worked with lots of animals and I have been wanting a couple(ooops!) of Ferrets for awhile…just keeping my eyes open. I looked on my local craigslist (again)and a family was looking for a good home for their young(from about 10 mos to about 1 1/2 YO)Ferrets. They even came with a HUGE (60″ by 28″ by 18″)cage. Well…I guess it is not ‘huge’ with four ferrets in it…though at first I thought it was. It was HUGE in the car! Though I wanted ferrets, I was not(who is???)ready for 4 ferrets. But when I met them I knew I wanted them…so I have been very busy trying to ‘genius’ a place for them in my already space challenged garage. I came up with a great place for their home(elevated 6′ above the ground; in aplace that nobody would otherwise ever use. And it is a great view for them! I will post a different video showing/telling about their set-up. I first experimented with a kitchen play spot and that was okay, except suddenly I realised how often I need to walk through the kitchen and the barriers (only one slides)made it a bit hard. So I decided on a bathroom play place. Easier and faster to clean also(as none of them are perfect with the litter tray…though three of them are mostly trained). As you can see they have lots of fun in there and I take little time outs to visit and play with them. I am really getting attached to these guys already

The reason why I’m asking is because people often say that ferrets are more work than dogs. I have a Pomeranian puppy, and, being as small as she is, she gets into EVEYTHING. Just like a ferret! I plan on adopting an adult ferret from a rescue. So, is an adult trained ferret easier to care for than a high energy untrained puppy?
