Do You Need a Fleece Ferret Hammock?

Ferrets love sleeping. An adult ferret sleeps on average 18 to 20 hours per day. Ferrets also love hiding in dark soft areas. But a ferret needs a comfortable area to hide and sleep in.

As humans we regulate our body temper while sleeping so we are comfortable. We do this by using a light blanket when it is hot and by using a heavier blanket when it is cold. The same principle holds true for ferrets.

Your ferret should also have two types of beds in their cage. If there are 2 types of beds available then they can choose which one to use based on their comfort level any night to sleep in. Comfortable ferret beds are most essential to maintain healthy sleeping patterns. Your ferret’s sleep can be disturbed if it is not comfortable while sleeping. If your ferret is uncomfortable while sleeping it may not live a healthy life.

Sleep sacks, also known as nap sack is one bed choice. It provides extra warmth when necessary. Sleep sack lies on the ground of your ferret’s cage. Sleep sack has one opening that the ferret can crawl into. Some sleep sacks have 2 openings, one at both ends. Your ferret will be surrounded by warmth once it is in the sleep sack. Some sleep sack have a crinkling effect to them, keep in mind this type of sack is suitable for play.

Hammock is the second bed choice for ferrets. A hammock provides pocketed space s it is suspended in mid air. This allows partially open space with walled security. Being a ferret is sensitive to heat the hammock provides an open space that can be utilized for cooling comfort.

Fleece hammocks bought in store come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Some are lined, other aren’t. Ferrets love snuggling together while sleeping hence some hammocks are large so they can sleep multiple ferrets at the same time.

Some hammocks have a zip front to provide adjustability of the size of opening. Some hammocks are boot shaped and some are flat looking. Hammocks provide more area for a ferret to utilize. Hammocks can also act as a safety feature. Hammocks can be stepped for the ferret to prevent long falls and gain access to a higher level of the cage.

Make sure that any hammock or sleep sack you purchase is machine washable to prevent the spread of any disease. A tightly woven fabric is more durable and safe.

If a sleep sack or a hammock begins to fray or seems to be separate then you should remove it from your ferret cage. Once a hammock or sleep sack is damaged it really becomes a hazard for your ferret. When purchasing a hammock make sure the hardware provided is safe for your ferret. If the hammock came without proper hardware then make sure you get proper hardware and the hardware you use does not harm your ferret.

Since hammocks provide a safer environment it is a great idea to purchase one for your ferret. It puts less pressure on your ferret’s body. It places them in their natural sleeping position, and it gives them a separate area to utilize for play.

Where can you find patterns to make ferret hammocks and beds?

We were just given a ferret, and she has a cage, but not a lot of toys and hammocks. I have seen on ebay where people sell these beds and hammocks that are homemade, and I was wondering if anyone new any websites with patterns. My grandmother is an excellect seamstress and I am sure she can figure out how to make these, but I would like to have a pattern just in case. Any ideas??

how to keep ferret away from my bed?

i have a head board but theres a space in the two corners and in the middle theres a big space where my ferret goes in to sleep, i didnt have a problem with it untill i saw she pooped there a few times… and i dont want her there and she digs there and its annoying… what can i put so she doesnt go there, i scruff her wheneever she goes there but she keeps coming back…

I am getting 2 ferrets tomorrow and iv been reading up on them for a while and want to make their time in the cage while im not playing with them fun!

As its getting rather cold and i read they love little blankets, i was going to make a little kind of quilty cushion type thing, basically with some nice soft fabric on the outside and lots of torn of fabric inside to make it cushiony.
Would they like this?
I am worried that they will pick at the stitching and it’ll get stuck in their claws and their teeth! (1st timeer you see lol)

Any other odeas for toys?

I heard they LOVE smelly socks!!! lol

I was thinking maybe a little small teddy that my son no longer plays with?
any help given is really appreciated!!

I foster tiny kittens and have made some hammocks which they love. I’veseen some wonderful ferret bedding that would work great on Ebay but they cost too much. I can sew a little and would like to try making some but need a pattern to follow. Any help would be appreciated.

I see some really neat stuff for sale on Ebay but I figure I can make it myself. I foster kittens for a cat rescue and the local SPCA and they love the hammocks I made so I’d like to make the hanging cubes, round beds and split hammocks. Any help is greatly appreciated.

All ferrets just love to sleep. On average a ferret will sleep between eighteen and twenty hours a day. They like to conceal themselves, too, in soft, dark spaces. So, you need to provide your ferret with a comfortable area where they can hide and sleep. Just as we like a light blanket when our room is warm and a heavier blanket when our room is cool, so do ferrets. Because of this, you should provide two types of beds for them in their cage. That way they can choose the place they find the most comfortable at the time. For a ferret, having a bed is vital to ensure healthy sleeping patterns. If your ferret isn’t comfortable it won’t be able to sleep well and this may cause health problems at some time in the future.

Ferret Sleep Sack

One bedding option for your ferret is a sleep sack, which is sometimes called a nap sack. These can supply extra warmth when it is needed. A sleep sack will lie on the bottom of your pet’s cage. Most are made with a single opening at one end for your ferret to crawl into. Some are made with openings at both ends. When your ferret chooses to use its sleep sack, it is surrounded by warmth. There are even some sleep sacks available that make crinkling sounds. It can also be used for play time.

Fleece Ferret Hammock

Another choice for your ferret’s bed is a fleece hammock. A ferret hammock is suspended in your pet’s cage. It provides a comfy, pocketed space that gives your pet a feeling of security while still being partially open. Because ferrets are sensitive to heat, a hammock can provide a comfortable spot that also allows your pet to cool down, if necessary. ferret hammocks are available in unlined or fleece-lined and come in all shapes and sizes. There are also large hammocks available that can easily accommodate several ferrets and they really like snuggling together while sleeping. Other ferret hammock configurations can be flat or boot-shaped, while still other have a zipper so you can adjust the size of the opening. Hammocks also provide for usable space for your ferret.

Make sure any hammock or sleep sack that you buy is machine washable so you can keep it clean and prevent the spread of disease. Choose a tightly woven fabric so it will be safer and more durable. Should a sleep sack or hammock start to fray, or if the seams begin to pull apart, remove it from the cage right away. A damaged hammock or sack can be dangerous to your ferret. Always be sure that any hardware used to attach the hammock to the cage isn’t unsafe for your pet.

Hammocks are a good choice for your ferret because they provide a safe environment for them without putting any pressure on their body. It also helps them get into their natural sleeping position while providing another area they can use for play.

What's your funniest story about what your ferret did or does?

Here is one of mine. One of my girls Sassy is very attached to her tiny stuffed ferret. She puts it to bed in a hammock, she carries it to the water dish so it can drink. She even carries it to the food dish and leaves it there to eat. Sassy will even take it to the litter box so it can take a poo. And when she is ready to go to bed she will carry the little stuffed ferret into bed with her. Sometimes when Sassy is not looking, I will take the stuffed ferret out of the hammock and put it by the food dish. Then when Sassy notices that her "baby" is not where she left her napping it is quite funny to see her look all over for her. And when she finds her stuffed ferret, Sassy carries her back to where she wants her "baby" to be.
So, tell me a funny story about your ferret!
The stuffed ferret that Sassy loves is from Super Pet and called a Squeek-n-Treat ferret. It has a squeeker in the tummy and a little pouch on the tummy that you can hide treats in.
